JORHAT, Aug 12: Along with the rest of the country, in Jorhat and Majuli too tiol Deworming Day was observed for children between the age group of 1 to 19 years in government, private schools, Anganwadi centres and at special schools, observation homes for juveniles and in tea garden areas by district NHM officials on Thursday. District media expert Mandakini Changmai Baruah fed the first dose of tablet to the students of Juki Sangha School, 4 No. Primary School and Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School. A cultural programme was also organized on the occasion at gadholi HS School highlighting the importance of de-worming tablets, said Parismita Handique, NHM Block Mager, Baghchung. In the district, a total of 28,064 government and private schools and 20,131 Anganwadi centres with a total of 3,13,155 schools students will be given de-worming tablets in a phased manner, the NHM official said. Earlier, the children were told about the measures to prevent worm infestation like wearing shoes, slippers, use of sanitary toilets, washing hands before meal, to keep short ils and to drink filter water. Leaflets highlighting the do’s and don’ts were distributed, said Parismita Handique.
