tiol Girl Child Day observed

Tezpur, Jan 24: tiol Girl Child Day was observed by the District Child Protection Unit, Sonitpur in partnership with State Child Protection Society supported by UNICEF at Tezpur Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School premises here on Tuesday.

The programme began with a street play to advocate saving the girl child and for empowerment. It was followed by an awareness meeting. Presided over by Sonitpur District Social Welfare Officer Kakeswar Sharma, the programme was graced by Adri Bhattacharya, secretary of District Legal Service Authority, Antara Sen, Assistant Commissioner, Sonitpur, Bharati Deka, Principal of Tezpur Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Child Protection Officer, Poppy Das, Pori Dolakaharia, Dimpi Saikia, Aasta Rani Lashkar and Dolly Lahkar among others.

Adri Bhattacharya in her speech focused on the services available in the District Legal Service Authority for the vulnerable section of the society. She further added that faced with any kind of problem, a girl or woman may seek help from police and Legal Service Authority. Mayuri Gogoi, Legal-cum-Provisiol Officer, spoke about the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act-2006, Domestic Violence Act -2009 and Dowry Prohibition Act-2006 and also about the pelty in case of violating the acts.
