tiol Handloom Expo gets underway at Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, Nov 24: The 14-day long tiol Handloom Expo-2017-18 organized by Bodoland Regiol Apex Weavers’ and Artisans Cooperative Federation (BRAWFED) under the sponsorship of Development Commissioner, Ministry of Textile, Government of India got underway from Friday at Rajmela Field, Kokrajhar. BTC EM Rajib Brahma who attended the function as chief guest ceremonially iugurated the tiol handloom expo by lighting of lamp in presence of BTC EM of Handloom and Textile Deben Boro, EM-Doneswar Goyary and Chairman of BRAWFED-Binod Brahma.

BTC EM-Rajib Brahma while representing on behalf of Chief Hagrama Mohilary said the council has decided to export ‘Endi’ products to intertiol market through Patanjali Yogpith as there has been a deal with Baba Ramdev during his stay at Kokrajhar for three days in mega Yog treatment and meditation camp recently. He said Baba Ramdev has agreed to import local woven ‘Endi’ products with special brand to boost the market as well as to encourage the local weavers. He quoted Ramdev as saying the ‘Endi’ cloths is very comfortable for the body as it is cold during summer and warm during winter.

Talking to reporters, the Maging Director of the BRAWFED, N. Ra Patgiri said the tiol Handloom Expo, 2017-18 was organized under the tiol Handloom Development Programme aiming to facilitate the consumers to purchase genuine handloom fabrics availing with discount to be offered by all levels of handloom cooperative societies, corporation, federation, SHGs engaged in handloom products from Assam, BTC and other participants from different parts of the country. He also said the handloom expo will create awareness among the weavers and others about the present economic scerio through exchange of views with buyers and customers during the 14-days long programme and make special thrust to focus on handloom to Make in India.
