JORHAT, JAN 31: Leprosy patients were handed over blankets, wheelchairs, and a special tricycle as assistance to become economically strong and to live a normal life. These patients were identified by a medical team from the Mobile Medical Unit led by Dr Bolin Kharghoria, who is also the director of HERS. The aid was handed over on the occasion of tiol Leprosy Week at a function held at Jorhat Press Club on Tuesday.

The function was presided over by Niranjan Mahanta, the president of Jorhat Press Club, while Dr. Pranjal Dutta, a renowned dermatologist attended as chief guest and Dr. Mohen Barua attended as guest of honour. Renowned dermatologist Dr. Pranjal Dutta called upon the gathering to take care of the skin as many diseases in the human body start from the various layers of the skin. He also highlighted the importance of vitamins and the diseases which might be caused due to deficiency of vitamins.

Dr Bolin Kharghoria, who has been working for leprosy and TB patients for the past half decade, said that because these diseases were neglected, they take a turn for the worse and hence the organization HERS was involved in creating awareness.
