tiol Level Handloom Expo iugurated

Golaghat, March 20: The tiol Level Handloom Expo, 2017-18 organised by the Directorate of Handloom and Textiles, Government of Assam was ceremonially iugurated by MLA, Khumtai LAC, Mril Saikia at Golaghat General Field here on Tuesday.

The expo has been organised in collaboration with the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India under the North Eastern Region Textile Promotion Scheme.

In his iugural speech, MLA Mril Saikia said the event is a good initiative taken by the government to encourage and promote the weavers of the state and such events pave the way for interchange of ideas and technology among the weaver community. He urged all weavers present to make the most of the various Government schemes and initiatives which are meant for the benefit of the weavers of the state.

Speaking on the occasion, Director, Handloom and Textiles, Bishnu Kamal Borah said the objective behind holding such an expo was to provide a platform for weavers across the state to come together and exchange ideas and discuss about the latest technological developments in the field. Besides providing the co-operative societies and weavers a potential market to showcase and sell their products, such an event also gives the weavers the opportunity to understand the demands of the customers, the Director added.  Deputy Director, Handloom and Textiles, Jayanta Kumar Das, in his welcome address informed that weavers from Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Harya and Rajasthan are also taking part in the expo which will continue till March 31.
