MANGALDAI, November 17: The media persons of Darrang district joined the countrywide celebration of tiol Press Day to mark the foundation day of Press Council of India on November 16. District Information and Public Relation Officer (DIPRO) of Darrang, Samar Kalita took the initiative to organize a small function in his office which was attended by a number of media persons coming from Dalgaon, Kharupetia, Kalaigaon, Sipajhar area of the district, besides the media persons of Mangaldai.  Taking part in the function as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner of Darrang, Ashok Kumar Barman appreciated the role of the media persons of the district as the fourth pillar of democracy and said that the media persons should realize their responsibility towards the society while carrying out their duty. Speaking on the theme of   ‘Reporting from conflict area and challenges for Media’, Barman laid stress on acquiring courage and detail information before reporting from conflict area as they have to face a lot of challenges. He assured all help and cooperation from the district administration to the media persons of the district so that the grievances of the people living in rural areas could be given more coverage. Advocate Jayanta Deka, the second person of the district to obtain diploma in jourlism, also attended the function as invited guest. Earlier, DIPRO Samar Kalita explained the significance of the day and offered felicitation to Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman and advocate Jayanta Deka with a Bihuwan.
