tiol Rural Drinking Water Week observed in Barpeta

GUWAHATI, March 17: The tiol Rural Drinking Water Awareness Week 2015 was observed by State Public Health Engineering department at Borbola in Barpeta district. The programme of the awareness week was iugurated by State PHE minister Sukur Ali Ahmed. The minister released a  IEC hand book on sanitation and drinking water which was published jointly by  Global Sanitation Fund and PHE department  in the iugural programme.

Ahmed in his speech appreciated the initiative of the PHE department and Global Sanitation Fund. Barli Deka ,Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta district also addressed the programme and appealed the people to follow a hygienic  lifestyle.

K. Majumdar, Chief Engineer of Public Health Engineering department also spoke in the meeting and asked community to access the opportunities from Swach Bharat Mission and tiol Rural Drinking Water Program.   

Addressing the iugural meeting the State Mager of Global Sanitation Fund in India Program, A. J. Kalita spoke about the importance of awareness generation and community mobilization to make  Assam an open defecation free state.

As a part of the programme a student’s rally on sanitation and drinking water  was taken out through the streets of Barpeta. In the programme handbills, stickers, caps, posters, and calendars were also distributed among the children. Hand washing activities were also demonstrated in meeting. An exhibition on model sanitation village  was also put up in the venue which was an added attraction for the children.
