tiol Voluntary Blood Dotion Day observed

GUWAHATI, Oct 1: The Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) and Assam State Blood Transfusion Council (ASBTC) observed tiol Voluntary Blood Dotion Day today with a flurry of activities, stated a press release. The state level function was organized at Intertiol Convention Centre, Kalakshetra Guwahati. Welcoming the participants in the meeting, ASACS Project Director Dhiraj Choudhury, ACS, said, “All healthy persons should come forward to dote blood. Till August 2015 we have been able to achieve 67 pc voluntary blood dotion and our goal is to achieve 100 pc.” This year the theme of Voluntary Blood Dotion Day is – “Blood donors bring a ray of hope, be a regular blood donor”. Presiding over the function as chief guest, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Assam Dr zrul Islam said, “Since we require sufficient blood in blood banks, every healthy person within the age group of 18 -65 years must come forward to dote blood. While receiving blood, it must be ensured that we take blood from the safe donor.” Principal Secretary to the Govt of Assam, Dept of Health & Family Welfare speaking on the occasion said, “Blood dotion should be a day-to-day affair and in this regard sufficient awareness must be created amongst the masses at different forums.” He also said that five numbers of new blood banks will be established in the five districts of state mely Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri, Kamrup and Cachar. The other dignitaries of the meeting include Director of Health Services Dr R Bhuyan, Director of Family Welfare Dr Jatin Barman, In-charge Drug Controller G Talukdar.  Deputy Director, I/C Blood Transfusion Services, ASACS Dr NK Beria offered the vote of thanks.

Ten nos of Voluntary Blood Donor Organizations were felicitated with cash and certificates. Akhil Bharatiya Terapanth Yuvak Parishad won the first prize of Rs 1 lakh for organizing Voluntary Blood Dotion Camps. A blood dotion camp was also organized at the venue where different NGOs doted blood.   

Earlier during the day, a rally comprising representatives from NGOs, students from educatiol institutions, nursing institutions took off from ASACS premises which was flagged off by tiol level Gold Medallist Javelin thrower Paragjyoti Baishya.
