tiol Voters Day observed across the state

SHILLONG, Jan 25: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya in collaboration with the office of the District Sports Officer, East Khasi Hills, Shillong celebrated the tiol Voters Day today by organizing a Run For Democracy under the theme “Empowering Young & Future Voters” at the state capital, stated a press release.

The marathon was flagged off by F. R. Kharkongor, Chief Electoral Officer from J.N. Sports Complex, Polo.  More than 1700 participants of various age group, differently abled persons and personnel in uniform participated in the Run.

The prize distribution programme was held at Basket Ball Court, J.N. Complex, Polo which was attended by the Chief Secretary, K.S. Kropha as the Chief Guest, F.R.Kharkongor, CEO, W. Khyllep, Secretary, Law Department, P. S. Dkhar, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, T. Lyngwa, Additiol CEO among others.

During the programme, the Chief Guest administered the NVD Pledge, released a booklet ‘Point to the future’ a brief report on SVEEP activities undertaken by CEO office and also handed over the prizes to all the winners.

The 7th tiol Voter’s Day was also celebrated in Amlarem sub-division. The event held at Enowel Hall Amlarem, was organised by the office of the SDO (Elections). The Sub-Divisiol Officer Ms. I. Laloo dedicated the day to the youth who have attained the age of 18 years, as it is the day they become eligible voters of the country. She said that the Constitution has given this right to all citizens of India who have reached the age of 18 years and above but along with this Right also came responsibility. She exhorted all the youth of Amlarem sub-division to exercise their right to vote.

EPIC cards were distributed to the new eligible voters by the Chief Guest, L. Sumer, MDC. A talent show was also organized by the ‘differently abled’ on the occasion, who were later felicitated by the Chief Guest. Certificates and prizes were also distributed to the winners of the various competitions organized earlier as part of the NVD Celebrations. All the people present at the function also took part in the NVD Pledge. The function ended with performances by a local band Azarael who entertained the gathering with their wonderful songs.

Meanwhile, along with the rest of the Country, Jowai join in to celebrate the 7th tiol Voters’ Day and facilitated the newly enrolled voters in the Conference Room DC’s Office, Jowai, on the theme “Empowering Young and Future Voters.”
