tiol Voters’ Day observed

SILCHAR, January 25: In a bid to celebrate tiol Voters’ Day, the Cachar district administration organised a programme at Zilla Parishad conference hall, located near the office of the Deputy Commissioner, here today.

AR Sheikh, additiol deputy commissioner of Cachar, administered the voters’ day oath to government staff and officials on the occasion, pledging that as citizens of India they believed in democracy and they would exercise their franchise in the elections without fear. Speaking on the occasion, AR Sheikh appealed to the people to elect suitable candidates at the polls by exercising their “valuable votes” for the larger interest of the society. He said that in democracy the voters had the ability to bring down anyone from the power and could alter the government.

The additiol deputy commissioner S N Singh encouraged young citizens to enroll themselves as voters and exercise their franchise for the good governce. Throwing light on the importance of observing Voters’ Day, he appealed to the youth to vote without any prejudice for a good and strong government.

Addressing the assembly, Nilotpal Chowdhury congratulated all those who enrolled their mes as voters for the first time. Taimur Raja Choudhury, editor and proprietor of Dainik Samayik Prasanga, a Bengali daily, also requested every citizen of the district to cast their valuable votes in the ensuing municipal polls.

 The leaflets released by the Election Commission of India were distributed to the people present at the programme. A few youths who voted for only once shared their views about the first time experience.

Similar events were also held at different parts of Cachar district to mark the day.
