SHILLONG, May 2: Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma today said that the tion should thank Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh for ending the VIP culture in the country.

It may be mentioned that in a bid to end VIP culture, the Congress government in Punjab soon after taking over decided to ban the use of beacons on government vehicles.

“In fact the Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh should be congratulated (for banning red beacon) and the Prime Minister just followed. Hats off to Punjab Chief Minister,” Dr Sangma said.

The Chief Minister, also said he was happy that Prime Minister rendra Modi, sent the right message to the tion of what is good (putting an end to red beacon).

On April 19, the Union Cabinet decided to do away with red beacons atop officials cars, and the decision came into effect from May 1.

In December 2013, a bench of Justices GS Singhvi and C gappan directed States to amend the Motor Vehicle Rules to restrict the use of the red beacon and impose an exemplary fine on those who misused it. The court order said only constitutiol authorities would be allowed to use the red beacon.
