ITAGAR, June 19: IPS officer Jasmeet Singh joined as the new SP of insurgency-hit Tirap district in Aruchal Pradesh relieving Ajit Kumar Singla, who has been transferred to New Delhi.
Singh joined on June 15 last, an official communiqué informed here today.
Tirap is gripped by insurgency due to the presence of a number of underground groups operating in the district. The problem is mainly due to the district’s proximity to Myanmar and galand. The insurgents take advantage of the long porous borders with Myanmar to sneak into Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts. In fact, Tirap is used as a corridor by the ultras.
The new SP has a job cut out for him. Soon after his joining, the SP said that he would serve the district with utmost sincerity and sought cooperation from all quarters.
Tirap DC Kamlesh Joshi while welcoming the new SP assured all cooperation from district administration, the communiqué added.
