‘tive Fiesta’ to be held at Dam Site

SHILLONG, Feb 3: The official flag and momentous of the 2 day festival called ‘tive Fiesta’ to be held at Dam Site (Umiam Lake) from March 17-18, with an objective to promote tourism in the state, was released by the organizers in the city on Friday. Speaking at the function, D S Malai CEO, tive Fiesta Meghalaya, said “This festival aims at creating awareness and find ways to promote tourism activities in the state and create employment opportunities for the local youths.” The objectives of the festival are to create awareness on the identity, culture, organic products, handloom, handicrafts etc.., of the indigenous people of the region and to create awareness amongst the people on the need to their culture. “Through this festival information will spread around the world and will create opportunities to improve the various tourist attractions in Meghalaya and at the same time open avenues for stakeholders from different parts of the world to come up with projects to promote tourism in our state,” he said. Informing that there will also be a release of two songs during the festival one having the title ‘Bam Kha Shnong meaning community picnic, he said, “We want to awaken the spirits of the people of the state through this song since in the past communities belonging to the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo used to organize such picnic, however in this day and age this trend has seen a decline.” Meanwhile, M Thabah Adviser Central Advisory Committee of tive Fiesta said, “Many of our youths are highly qualified and holding various degrees however most of them will not be able to get government jobs but if the government focus on tourism then our youths will always get employment.”
