TMC MP assures to take up mineral rights

SHILLONG, May 24: Md dimul Haque, MP (Rajya Sabha) of the TMC, and member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal has agreed to take up mineral rights issues of the Khasi States in the 30 member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal & Steel. This decision was conveyed by Md dimul Haque, MP (Rajya Sabha) after a detailed meeting held on May 8, with John F Kharshiing, Co-Chairman, Meghalaya State Planning Board, Chairman, Assembly of Hynniewtrep tions, Spokesperson, Federation of Khasi States. The spokesperson Federation of Khasi States, John F Kharshiing informed Haque,  that because of the non-fulfilment of the Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement on August 17, 1948, and since it is yet to find mention in the Constitution of India, the people were facing serious constitutiol conflicts where Parliament  and State Legislation were in conflict with the customary laws are being undermined from time to time causing immense hardship to the Indigenous people.  After going through all the documents the Rajya Sabha MP, and Member of the Coal Committee, forwarded the memorandum submitted by Kharshiing to the Chairman of the Committee, and suggested that it should be considered. Haque also said that the chiefs and stakeholders affected by the NGT orders be called to present their case before the full Committee.
