TMMK's foundation  day at Silapathar

DHEMAJI, Jan 11: The Silapathar committee of Takam Mising Mime Kebang (TMMK) was reconstituted with Bontibala Pegu as president and Ratneswari Doley as general secretary.  It may be mentioned that Takam Mising Mime Kebang is a women's organisation of the Mising community, which celebrated its two-day 25th foundation day all over the State on January 9 and 10 in a befitting manner.  The Silapathar district unit of TMMK organised the foundation day along with its fourth biennial session at the Silapathar Public Auditorium.  On the first day, the programme started with a cleanliness drive. An executive meeting and registration of delegates was held in the morning. The food festival and handloom textile exhibition was iugurated by Mising Autonomous Council Executive Member Joygeswar Kutum. The delegates' camp was iugurated by the president of the reception committee Debakanta Pegu. The first delegates' meet was iugurated by the president of TMMK Usharani Kumbang Pegu, while adviser Mulyarani Pegu attended as observer.  A semir on witch hunting was organised on the occasion, where the adviser of TMPK Bhuban Pegu, retired health educator Phanidhar Pegu, MAC general member Pratap Taye, Silapathar TMPK president Nilamoni Doley and secretary Hem Chandra Doley attended the semir.  Bhuban Pegu delivered a speech on the practice of witch hunting and role of women in curbing the heinous act in rural areas. Strangely enough, the incidence of witch hunting has been increasing in rural areas due to lack of proper education, he added.  On the following day, the TMMK insigne of the district committee was hoisted by the president of the Silapathar committee, Kalpa Panging. As a part of the itinerary, smriti tarpan was offered by Bontibala Pegu, secretary of the Silapathar committee.
