TMPK demands solution to flood problem in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji

Lakhimpur, September 12: The districts of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji are affected by floods every year. Due to the ippropriate construction of the river banks and alleged corruption in the government departments, the flood problem has not been solved over a long period of time even after sanction of crores of rupees by the Centre for flood control in Assam. Recently after the damage caused by flood in Lakhimpur, the Mising students’ union - Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) - staged a protest against the alleged failure of the

government departments to provide relief materials to the flood-affected people of the district. Hundreds of TMPK activists staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office demanding immediate distribution of relief materials to flood victims of the district. They also blamed the Lakhimpur Water Resources Department for its alleged ibility to carry out flood magement in the district and for the ippropriate construction of embankments.
