JORHAT, March 19: The employees and workers of Tocklai Tea Estate, owned by Tocklai Tea Research Institute, have not received their weekly payments for three months, following which they were forced to go to the Tocklai director’s office to demand release of their weekly payment, said the workers’ union president Dipak Tanti on Monday. The protesters shouted slogans in front of the director’s office and demanded release of their outstanding weekly payment. At the same time, they also demanded other facilities which they were denied. They claimed that the magement had issued fake ATM cards and they were not able to withdraw any money from the ATM. They said that for further release of the weekly payment, they wanted cash and requested the bank to take back their ATM cards as the magement had no money to deposit in their account, said Mun Tanti, the secretary of the workers’ union.
Meanwhile, the magement from Tocklai Tea Research Institute requested the workers to have patience and assured that their weekly payments will be released within 24 hours. The magement claimed that the delay was due to due to absence of the Accounts Officer who is reported to be out of station on health ground.
