Tony Basumatary Wins Filmfare Award for Best Background Score

In a rare achievement, Tony Deori Basumatary from Assam has won the Jio Filmfare Award 2018 for his best background score for the Marathi horror film 'Lapachhapi'. Basumatary shares the award with his co-music directors Ranjan Pattnaik and Utkarsh Dhotekar.

An innovative guitarist and music composer, whose music frequently draws upon visual imagery, the Mumbai-based Basumatary has scored the music for the award-winning Assamese film 'Dooronir Nirola Poja', the commercially successful films 'Local Kung Fu' and 'Local Kung Fu 2', short film 'Myna & Asterix', etc. He impressed a lot of people with his expertise in Mumbai where he worked as a music arranger and music producer in films like 'Dangal', 'Bhale Manchi Roju', 'Pune-52', etc.

'Lapachhapi' became the first Marathi film and the first Indian horror film to be in the official selection of the Brooklyn, Hudson and Madrid International Film Festivals.

The new age horror film, produced by Jitendra Patil of Midas Touch Movies with journalist turned filmmaker Ramachandran Srinivasan as an associate producer and directed by the award winning Vishal Furia has entered new domains where no Marathi film has dared to enter before.
