Top athletes have to attend Guwahati meet

Our Sports Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 22: The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) will not give any exemption to the athletes from attending the Inter State Athletics meet which is scheduled to be held in Guwahati from June 26. The federation in a release to its website said that the exemption, only under exceptional circumstances, can be granted by the AFI president. As of now, everyone will have to attend the trials barring Neeraj Chopra.

The AFI decision means all the athletes, training in Poland, Finland and Bhutan would be seen in action in Guwahati.

The meet in Guwahati also assumes importance since the selectors would pick the team for the 4x400m mixed relay. The event will be held for the first time at the Asian Games and offers India a decent chance to win the gold.
