Top Cities to Live in India: Guwahati ranks 85 on the List of Top 111 Cities

Guwahati: Guwahati, the city which wears the crown of "Gateway to Northeast India", has added another feather to its cap by ranking 85 on the list of Top 111 cities to live in India.

The ranking was released by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, which has judged the Indian cities on the basis of governance, social, economic and physical infrastructure.

Guwahati scored 29.3 out of the total 1oo marks.

The Ease of Living index report submitted by the Ministry for the first time, ranks Pune, Navi Mumbai and Greater Mumbai as India's three most liveable places.

India's capital Delhi came 65th on the list of 111. It came last in the category of health. The city scored 33.18 out of 100 in institutional, social, economic and physical parameters.

In the category of governance, Guwahati has scored 8.46. The best city in this category is Navi Mumbai with 16.7.

Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Harshdeep Singh said that this inaugural exercise of listing cities on the basis of living index is a shift towards a data-driven approach to urban planning and management. It also promotes a healthy competition among Indian cities to improve upon different indices.

Another northeastern city that has made it to the list of Top 111 liveable cities in India is Kohima, the capital of Nagaland.

The inclusion of the capital city of Assam, Guwahati in the list should be perceived by the administration and concerned authorities as an encouraging boost to work towards further development, focussing upon the different parameters laid down by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs so that the city can improve its rank in future.
