Staff Correspondent

Shillong, May 9: The proscribed Hynniewtrep tiol Liberation Council (HNLC) is left with just 20 odd cadres in Bangladesh-all are engaged in areca nut and betel leave plantations. This was revealed by a self-styled major of HNLC who surrendered before police on Monday. The surrendered HNLC cadre identified as Combart Syad, a resident of Sotilla of Karimganj District was a man assigned with training to the cadres.

His assignment went for a toss- his move to Chittagong hill tracks to Sylhet was lit up with the regimental militant tag. “His big assignment of being a trainer in weaponry was accompanied by seeing the purported cadres making a living out of the plantations owned by the Khasi-pr inhabitants of Bangladesh. Hailing from Karimganj district, Syad was considered to be man to communicate with any Bangladeshis as he is fluent in Bengali. He crossed the Indo- Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills on Monday before surrendering to the East Khasi Hils SP. He did not deposit any arms, but his subtle disclosure about the little arsel under the self styled C-in-C of the HNLC is apparent.
