Tough action against illegal sand traders

DIMORIA, July 19: The Forest Department officials at Sonapur stepping up tough measures against the illegal sand traders. As such, in a drive against the illegal traders conducted at Sonaikuchi, Kamalajari and Jugadal areas, a team of forest officials seized as many as 9 trucks loaded with sand which were illegally mined.

In this regard, Ranger Gautam Mahanta said that no illegal sand miners will be spared. He revealed that some vested interests are involed in illegal trading of sands. “They have been digging out sands from cultivable fields while others are mining the Digaru River by using machines illegally,” he further said. Meanwhile, Mahanta informed The Sentinel that legal action has been initiated against the illegal traders on behalf of the Department.
