LAKHIMPUR, April 13: Mising Nagarik Kebang and Mising Sisang Kebang of Lakhimpur have strongly opposed the proposed establishment of a tourist lodge in the Uttar Lakhimpur Mising Kristi Bikash Kendra (ULMKBK) premises located at Borimuri near North Lakhimpur town. Regarding the issue, the organizations have lambasted the Executive Committee of the ULMKBK, especially its president Dr Dambarudhar Mili, for granting permission to establish the controversial tourist lodge there with a fund of Rs. 1.33 crore allotted by the Mising Autonomous Council (MAC).

“The Mising people living in the district headquarter of Lakhimpur got a plot of four bighas land through an approval under SDLAC in 2007. The present Executive Committee of the institution, which was formed unconstitutionally, has no right to permit MAC to construct the tourist lodge there. Any work can be possible in the ULMKBK campus as per the approval of the Mising people of the town,” stated Anil Kumar Pegu, the secretary of Mising Nagarik Kebang. He warned the Executive Committee to refrain from constructing the lodge. Further, the secretary informed that a public meeting held at Uttar Lakhimpur Janajati Mohila Samiti Bhavan in the presence of a host of senior Mising citizens, strongly opposed the tourist lodge in ULMKBK after discussing it thoroughly. The meeting also discussed the legal status of the present Executive Committee of the ULMKBK and termed it ‘unconstitutional’. The meeting decided not to approve the committee.

On the other hand, Anil Kumar Gogoi alleged that the president of this very unconstitutional committee, Dr Dambarudhar Mili had left no stone unturned to construct the tourist lodge. “A case as per the instruction of Lakhimpur DC was registered at North lakhimpur Police Station vide No. 3607/2017/420/409/IPC against this Dr. Dambarudhar Mili due to his act of misappropriating fund allotted to ULMKBK while he was the secretary of the Executive Committee. The Mising people of North Lakhimpur no longer want him as the president of the Executive Committee at present,” he added. He termed the agreement between the MAC and the Executive Committee of the ULMKBK regarding the construction of the tourist lodge as mere farce.
