Itagar, June 16: The P&PT Tourist Resort constructed near Aalo town in West Siang district of Aruchal Pradesh was on Wednesday iugurated by Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism and Civil Aviation PD So.
Located on the left bank of Yomgo River, the resort has a badminton and table tennis court inside its complex and is well furnished with all comforts and amenities.
Addressing a gathering, So said 90 per cent of the government-sponsored schemes on tourism are left unproductive either due to haphazard construction, land ownership problem or defective site selection by the contractors. The government’s attention will be on people who are really serious about development of tourism in near future.
“Aruchal is emerging as one of the most preferred tourist destitions and it should be our endeavour to create good facilities and show hospitality to outsiders,” he said, exhorting the people to identify self-sustaining tourism projects and stop thinking only about government jobs.
So suggested all government functions, meetings and get-togethers be done in the government resort though it is run by private individuals so that the government can earn revenue.
Responding to a memorandum on flood protection, road connection and bar license, So assured he would look into the issues that relate to protecting the tural assets.
Also present on the occasion was Tourism Deputy Director Gedo Eshi Ori who lamented that though West Siang falls under an important tourist circuit of the state, none has been registered as tour operator so far.
