From A Correspondent

Shillong, Nov 5: The trekking-cum-sightseeing to Mawryngkhang at Wahkhen village of East Khasi Hills district was organised by the Tourism Promoters Trekking Society (TPTS) on Saturday.

More than 300 people, including tourists and students from Shillong, along with hundreds of local people and members of the TPTS, took part in the event.

The programme was flagged off by Dr Abhijeet Bhatia, a senior doctor of NEIGRIHMS. It takes about 20 minutes to reach Wahrew river, which is considered as one of the cleanest rivers in Meghalaya. Its water is clean and transparent right from the water surface down to the river bed.  Five suspension bamboo bridges have been constructed across this river along with 50 bamboo bridges at an expenditure of Rs 10 lakh, which was borne solely by the Trekking Society.
