Hailakandi: Minister for Environment and Forest, Parimal Suklabaidya said the State government aims to double the farmers’ income under the Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY) by 2022. He was speaking at a tractor distribution programme organised by the District Agriculture Office at Nazrul Sadan auditorium in Hailakandi town recently. Handing over the keys to some beneficiaries, Suklabaidya requested the farmers to ensure proper utilisation of the tractors for enhancing productivity, as public money was used in distributing these tractors. 114 tractors will be distributed in the district soon. Under the CMSGUY, Suklabaidya said the government provides 70 per cent or a maximum of Rs.5 lakh subsidy to one farmers’ group in every village across the State. Altogether 70 per cent of a tractor’s cost will be subsidised by the government, 10 per cent will be borne by the beneficiary and the rest 20 per cent extended as bank loan (to beneficiaries) at a minimal interest rate, he said.

Under the scheme, three variants of tractors - 35-40 HP, 40-45 HP and 45-50 HP – are provided to the farmers’ groups. A group of 8-10 farmers will be eligible to apply for one tractor. The present Government had started distribution of 10,109 tractors across the State under the CMSGUY on December 10 last year. The State government would spend Rs 1.2 crore in every village to achieve the goal. All 26,000 villages will be covered phase wise. The scheme will cost the state exchequer Rs 1,450 crore.
