Guwahati, April 29: As part of the forthcoming May Day celebrations, members of various trade union bodies of the State will assemble at the Dighalipukuripaar on May 1 and deliberate on the grievances of the working class.

A joint statement issued by AITUC, HMS, CITU, AICCTU, AIUTUC, TUCC, bank and insurance employees’ unions, State Government and Central Government employees’ bodies, oil and power workers’ unions among others, has called for resisting the liberalist and neo-liberalist economic policies pursued by the BJP government at the Centre.

The statement further added that together with the neo-liberalist forces, growing commulisation of the society is an equally big threat to the tion.

“The policies pursued by the Centre have effectively denied the basic rights of the working class, while providing huge economic benefits to the corporate houses. Crucial PSUs that are the backbone of the country’s self-reliance and sovereignty are being privatised. This has ominous implications for the country’s future. The achha din promised by the Prime Minister are nowhere to be seen,” the statement said.

The trade unions also called upon the workers and employees to make the tionwide strike, scheduled for September 2, a big success.
