SILCHAR, Sept 1: Welcoming the new Superintendent of Police of Cachar Rajbeer Singh, members and office bearers of Silchar Business Association’s Coordition Committee met him on Monday in his office chamber and discussed the various problems as well as law and order situation. The delegation was led by Pradyot Paul, president, and Suvash Mitra, general secretary, of the Association. Both of them said their coordition committee is the coordition of most of the business associations of this town.

The coordition committee, according to them, looks after the upgradation of business magement, integration among them, their safety and security. It is well known that during festive occasions, business community and their interests become soft target of the unscrupulous elements posing themselves as representing some or the other organizations and extort money from them in the me of holy celebrations. They specifically referred to the puja committees and various other fake organizations, masquerading themselves as involved in social and welfare activities.

During the ensuing Durga puja and Kali puja, the Business Association expects from the SP proper monitoring of the developments as business community becomes the easy target of such organizations and puja committees. In other words, they are not only subjected to harassment but also forced to pay huge dotions. This unpleasant fact is known to all sections of people and the civil society under compulsions has to look the other way.

Another burning problem afflicting the town raised by them is of traffic. The rrow roads become so congested with the movement of heavy traffic that the pedestrians have no other altertive than to move through footpaths with holes and cracks that make their movement risky. Often the traffic is unregulated. It is their submission that with all constraints existing, the traffic branch should ensure that the bottleneck points are kept free and the vehicles move in an orderly manner. In particular, the attention of the police super has been drawn to Shibalik Park where goods carrying trucks are parked illegally. It has to be removed for easy traffic flow.

The coordition committee members also expressed their serious concern at the rising trend in unsocial activities in certain pockets of this town, vitiating the environment. The incidence of illicit liquor being sold openly, betting and other evil practices is rising. They demanded surprise raids on the trouble-spots and curbing the antisocial activities with tough hands.

Rajbeer Singh SP after listening to their demands patiently assured them of appropriate measures to streamline the traffic movement as well as put a curb on the antisocial and illegal activities. About the mece of dotions during the festive occasions of Durga puja and Kali puja, he said plan of action would be decided when the time comes. He advised the coordition committee members to be in touch with him and inform him of any development that needs his intervention. The members expressed their satisfaction at the hands of cooperation and action extended by the SP.
