Traders booked under LM Act

ITAGAR, Aug 19: In continuation to its routine ture of inspections, the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs (LM&CA) is carrying out surprise raids and inspections to protect rights and interest of common consumers as also to keep a check on fraudulent trade practices.

In a surprise inspection conducted by the Itagar unit of the department on Monday, 12 traders were found violating the provisions of Legal Metrology Act and Rules at they were found selling imported packaged commodities at exorbitant rates beyond Maximum Retail Price (MRP).

“Besides, declaration made on the packages being printed in foreign languages they are not in conformity with the laid down norms of the standards of LM (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 which is a gross violation of the statute,” informed LM Assistant Controller Amrit Taba.

The surprise inspection was conducted in and around Gandhi Market at C-Sector, Ziro point, P-Sector area, as Taba led the inspection assisted by the LM Jurisdictiol Inspector, Gamkhong Singpho.

The department appealed each and every responsible citizen to come forward with their grievances and lodge complaints to the nearest consumer forum and to discharge their duties as a consumer in asserting their legitimate rights as enshrined by the constitution.

The department further appealed the general public to co-operate and come forward as witness during course of raids, search and seizure.

Any aggrieved consumer can lodge his/her complaint to the nearest office of the LM officer or to the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum (District Forum) for complaints involving fincial limit up to Rs 20 lakhs or to the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (State Commission) for complaints with fincial involvement above Rs 20 lakhs and up to Rs 1 crore, a press release informed.
