Traditiol heads approach Green Tribul

SHILLONG, March 29: The traditiol heads of Raid Laban Dorbar today informed that they have approached the tiol Green Tribul (NGT) against the renewed construction by the defence authorities  in a catchment area despite a High Court order to halt it.  
The Raid Laban Dorbar recently filed a petition before the NGT, Eastern Zone, Kolkata to stop the destruction of the forests, water resources and rivulets by the army and also to direct the state government to declare the area as “critical catchment area.”      
According to the Raid Laban Dorbar, the NGT, Eastern Zone, Kolkata had directed the respondents to place, before the NGT, the factual position as regards the allegations contained in the origil application.
“They shall deal with the questions pertaining to the threat to the catchment area, felling of trees by the army and alleged iction of the Advisory Board said to have been constituted inder the Act,” the NGT order said.
The traditiol institution alleged that Defence authorities on February this year defied a High Court order by resuming construction in a catchment area.
It may be mentioned that the High Court on February 23, 2007 had stayed the construction work by the army within the jurisdiction of the dorbar and also asked the state government to constitute an advisory board for declaring the area as “critical catchment area.”
According to the Raid, Laban Dorbar which consists of eight dorbar shnongs army  authorities has again started felling trees and and erection of the cemented wall along  the barbed wire fencing right through the catchment areas.
