TANGLA, June 27: An Adivasi youth in his early 20s was rescued by AASAA (All Adivasi Students’ Union ) and Tangla Press Club members when the youth was wandering on the streets of Tangla town on Tuesday.
The youth was identified as Nikutin Tirkey, son of Barbas Tirkey, a resident of Batabari village under Kumarikata PS of Baksa district, who was allegedly lured by a youth of his village, Jiten Gour, who handed over him to a landlord in Itagar of Aruchal Pradesh six months ago. The youth, who was not paid a penny, was engaged in agricultural fields and was allegedly subjected to mental and physical torture when he asked for remuneration. Owing to such circumstances, the youth fled away by train and reached Tangla railway station three days back. The youth alleged that he went to Tangla PS on Tuesday morning but the officers and constables denied him any help. The youth was later found by AASAA Tangla unit members and Tangla Press Club members, who after proper verification of his home address, arranged for his travelling expenses to his village along with providing him clothes and other utilities.
