Assam train murder: Train murder accused brought to Sivasagar

JOYSAGAR, July 13: The prime accused of the serial murder of two women in Upper Assam has finally been arrested by the SIT officials. One Bipin Pandey of Tinsukia Railway Colony area was apprehended on the wee hours of Friday as per confession of accused Bikash Das alias Bubu. Bikash Das and his associate Bipin Pandey at last confessed before the police that they had committed the two murders and were planning another on Thursday also but could not succeed on this occasion. Having made the sketch of the accused public, the SIT officials took to examining the CC footages of Tinsukia Railway station where they spotted Bikash wandering suspiciously on Tuesday, Wednesday and also on Thursday. SIT officers quickly send message about this suspected persons and following this RPF Havildar Madhuram nabbed the accused at Mariani junction according to sources. RPF has handed over the two accused to Sivasagar Police and were brought to Sivasagar Sadar PS on Friday where they would be interrogated.

Further, victim Radha Kumari’s mother would be called to the PS and she will identify if the accused person is the same person she had seen in the train in which Radha was travelling on that fateful day. It may be recalled that the accused was present in the compartment that Radha entered for her journey. Locals and organizations in Sivasagar have demanded capital punishment for the two accused.

Meanwhile, ADGP RP Meena reached Sivasagar yesterday and is monitoring the investigation process. Meanwhile, the officer in-charge of Simaluguri PS U Goswami has been suspended on charge of negligence of duty as Simaluguri Railway station falls under the jurisdiction of Simaluguri police station. Some money, jewellery, mobile phone and the train ticket of Radha Kumari were recovered from the possession of Bikash Das. One gamosa was also recovered from the possession of Bikash Das which he purportedly carried to commit another murder he and Bipin had planned for Thursday, sources informed.
