Train services disrupted due to AKRSU rail blockade

Bongaigaon, June 3: During the 12-hour rail blockade called by the All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU, Biswajit Ray faction) on Wednesday, AKRSU activists blocked the New Bongaigaon Alipurduar Rail line at Petlagaon area near Dangtol Railway station in Chirang district.

The rail blockade was called in support of the demand for ST status to the Koch- Rajbongshi community and separate Kamatapur state. Purobi Ray Sarkar, secretary of women’s wing led the group. They blocked the rail track for almost half an hour. During the blockade, the Dn Rajdhani Express and Dn Kuch Valley Express were detained at the New Bongaigaon Railway Junction. After half an hour of the blockade, police arrived and arrested the activists and cleared up the rail track. After that the movement of trains resumed.

Talking to media persons, AKRSU president Biswajit Ray said that AKRSU would continue their agitation until and unless their demands got fulfilled. The AKRSU activists also blocked rail lines in Bijni area of Chirang district.
