Train-truck collision at Jorhat, driver seriously injured

From a Correspondent

JORHAT, May 29: A speeding train from Mariani in Jorhat district to New Jalpaiguri of West Bengal collided with an illegally parked and fully loaded truck in front of Gattani Industries, completely damaging the truck and seriously injuring the driver identified as Md. Mehtab Ali of Kharupetia in the Cinmora area of Jorhat on Friday. It must be mentioned here that the industry housing a rice mill, a plastic bag manufacturing unit, dairy farm and many others is owned by noted businessman Murildhar Gattani and it is in the same unmanned and completely illegal track that last year another truck collided with a train from Jorhat to Mariani, critically injuring the driver and the helper. Thereafter, the Indian Railway authorities had blocked access to the industry but the businessman allegedly used the hundred workers of his industry as shield and planned a protest over the railway track, thus forcing the railway authorities to open the entry exit point once again.  Entry or exit into any industrial unit crossing over an unmanned railway track is illegal under the Railways Act.
