Trained Nurses’ Association of India commemorates nursing services on the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale

NAHARLAGUN: Along with rest of the world, the Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI), State branch celebrated the invaluable contribution of nursing services to public health and commemorated the birth of Florence Nightingale here at TRIHMS.

Organized annually by the nurses around the world, this year the theme is ‘’Nursing the Balance of Mind, Body and Spirit’’. On the occasion, the nurses of TRIHMS, Naharlagun, paid homage by lighting a lamp and also by floral tributes to Nightingale, known as the founder of modern nursing.

‘’Our hospitals are run not by doctors but by nurses,’’ said Director Medical Education (Training and Research) Dr RD Khrimey while underlining the importance of nurses. Attending the programme as a chief guest he said that the nursing profession as one of the most coveted. Admitting shortage of nurses, he appreciated the sincere effort nurses of TRIHMS are putting.

He encouraged young nurses to be good listeners while dealing with patients, adding that sometimes the situation could be irritable for them. Learning should be a continuous process, don’t contend with getting a job and salary, he advised.

While informing about the posts in nursing school as nursing tutors, Dr Khrimey informed that request has been placed to the government for appointing some from within the department who are working since a long time and rest to be made open for an interview. As per government order, the vacant posts are to be filled through open interview.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Director Nursing, Kijum Karga stressed on placement, nature of duty etc of ANM to strengthen the health system. She called for the need of streamlining nursing service & nursing education and stated two must go together. Stating

Meanwhile taking a strong stand against authentic and valid nursing license, she said nurses practising without a valid license will issue show cause notice, adding that it is mandatory.

She also requested the concerned department to appoint of assistant deputy director nursing education, as it is needed. She also informed that the proposal for establishing a separate nursing director has been submitted to the Government of India. Calling for teamwork, she urged TNAI, state unit team to work collaboratively.

Among others, Health and Wellness Officer, Mary Tayum, finance secretary TNAI state unit, Tage Ampi spoke on the occasion. President TNAI, State unit KT Yasung, general secretary Techi Mepung offered the welcome address and the vote of thanks respectively.

The occasion was marked with the distribution of fruits to patients.
