MAWKYRWAT, Sept 22: With a view to make the people aware about tural calamities and be prepared of any disaster, the District Disaster Magement Authority organized a two days Training Cum Mock drill on Search and Rescue and First aid followed by a Mock drill on Earth quake at the playground of the Presbyterian Secondary School, Saitsd in South West Khasi Hills District.
The training was conducted with a view to create awareness as well as to keep the teachers and students aware of the eventualities that might arise due to tural calamities and to make them prepared in the event of unforeseen disaster.
The programme is part of preparedness and safety measures under the Disaster Magement Plan.
Through these types of trainings and demonstration, it is hoped that teachers and students would be informed of the precautiory measures that they ought to take in the event of such disaster and to translate into prompt action and take appropriate response in times of emergencies in order to mitigate, minimize and alleviate the suffering of the people.
In the Training cum Mock Drill, training facilities on Search and Rescue Operations, First Aid Treatment to the wounded and the like was imparted to the students by D L Kharkongor, Assistant District Programme Officer and L Syiemlieh, Assistant Deputy Controller, Civil Defense & Home Guards.
