Dibrugarh, Dec 27: In a bid to curtail the business of locally-made liquor, and to give the people associated with the trade an alterte and respectable source of livelihood, the district administration has started a six-day training programme at Diriel Labour Club, Duliajan on Tuesday. Through this initiative, 60 businessmen from Duliajan and Tengakhat, who are into the business of locally-made liquor, are being trained on taking up piggery as a means of sustence.
Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh, Laya Madduri, who kicked off the event by lighting the lamp, praised the decision taken by the trainees to abandon their present business and shift to a more dignified way of earning income. She, however, added that the programme would be a success only if the trainees were to apply the received knowledge in their respective spheres of work. At the same time, she also warned them of legal consequences if anyone did not give up the morally reprehensible business, despite the assistance offered by the district administration.
