Training on apple and kiwi production held

Itagar, October 18: In all, sixty farmers from Sangti, Khaso and mthung villages under West Kameng district took part in a KVK organized three-day training programme on Advances in improved production technology in apple, training and pruning in kiwi and nursery magement and propagation techniques in kiwi, in collaboration with Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema, galand, which concluded at the KVK premises on Saturday.

Highlighting the potential of growing temperate fruit crops in the area, Dirang ADC Dagbom Riba exhorted the farmers to explore every possible scope to increase productivity through plantation of improved varieties, multiple cropping, intercropping of fruit trees with short duration crops, etc. and strive towards economic development and self-reliance.

Deputy Director, Regiol Sheep Breeding Farm, Sangti, Dr. Hano Tama also advised the farmers to adopt integrated farming system instead of traditiol mono cropping for sustaible income generation and better livelihood. Horticulture Specialist and training in-charge, Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema, galand, Sentiyangla Pongener was also present on the occasion.

KVK Senior Scientist-cum-Head Dr. N D Singh along with the technical officers of the KVK interacted with the farmers through lectures, PowerPoint presentation and demonstrations. Secateurs were also distributed to the farmers as part of the training programme, stated a press release.
