Training on biometric registration held

SHILLONG, Aug 19: A District level training on Biometric Registration (BME) under tiol Population Register (NPR) was today held at Ampati in South West Garo Hills. This is the first time since Ampati was declared a district that such training is being held under NPR for its administrators.

Familiarizing the trainees on BME and NPR the Joint Director stated that the NPR is a Register of common residents of the country prepared at the local, C&RD Block, District, State and tiol level under provisions of the Citizenship Act 1955 and the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and issue of tiol Identity Cards) Rules, 2003.

She informed that the objective of the NPR is to create a comprehensive identity database of every usual resident in the country and that the database would contain demographic as well as biometric particulars.

“At the district level the Deputy Commissioner is desigted as the District Registrar of Citizen Registration and heads the registration process,” She said.

The Joint Director stated that it was mandatory for every common resident of India to register in the NPR.

Later a comprehensive training on BME and NPR was given to the trainees with the help of visual aids and powerpoint presentations.
