Training on Zardozi art

SHILLONG, Sept 12: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Saturday launched Skill Training on Zardozi craft including training and facilitation to skill rural entrepreneurs for manufacturing Meghalaya-specific souvenirs and gifts under Entrepreneurship Promotion Programme for women and youth at Ampati, South West Garo Hills on Saturday evening.

Addressing the impressive gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the skill training was one of the programmes being initiated by the Government to generate livelihood opportunities for the people, particularly the youth and womenfolk in the rural areas with the intention to create a pool of skill workforce. “This programme is basically to empower our people to ensure that they have sustaible livelihood through their skill and create a pool of highly skilled workforce so that itself can be reason for various other entrepreneurship to come up”, he said.

He also informed about the training programmes in apparel making being conducted in Mahendraganj and Ampati in and the 45000 sq ft apparel and garment centre that is coming up at Hatisil near Ampati and sanctioning of additiol Industrial Promotion Centres in the the State where thousands of skilled workforce would be required. “When there is enough skilled work force, a lot of investors will come to the region and open apparel industries which will create the right kind of eco-system to promote all other associated ancillary industries, he added.

Speaking on the other component of the training programme, that is manufacture of Meghalaya-specific souvenirs, gifts and decorative items for Christmas, the Chief Minister said that there is huge demand for such items which are being imported from other countries like Chi.
