Transfer of officials: Pressure group's deadline over today

SHILLONG, Nov 29: The Jaintia Students Union (JSU) today stated that if the state government and MLAs from Jaintia Hills cannot fulfill the demands made by 13 pressure groups to transfer the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills, Kumar Kembhavi and Additiol SP Shemphang Syrti and other police officials involved in the manhandling of students of Kiang ngbah Government College at Jowai during a procession to DC office on  November 10, the NGOs will take stronger steps to pressurize the government.

It may be mentioned that a delegation of NGOs from Jaintia Hills in a meeting held at Orchid inn Thadlaskein on November 15, had decided to demand the immediate transfer of Deputy Commissioner Arunkumar Kembhawi and Additiol Superintendent of Police Shemphang Syrti within 15 days for police action on the students of Kiang ngbah Government College. The JSU in a statement today said, “The deadline set for the state government to transfer the DC and Addl SP will end on November 30. But the government so far has not taken any steps.  So we will have to meet again to decide our next course of action.”
