Transport federation demands regularization of contingency workers

Our correspondent

Itagar, April 3: The All Aruchal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) has once again appealed to the authorities of the transport department and the Chief Minister to initiate steps for regularizing the contingency workers who have served in the department for over a decade.

“It is high time that the government regularized the aggrieved workers, so that they get what they are worthy of after serving the State for such a long period of time,” AAPPTF president Dobing Som said in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the federation is aggrieved as despite submitting several memos and representations to the authorities concerned, no concrete step has been taken so far in this regard.

“Most of the workers in the Directorate of Transport have been rendering their valuable service to the department as contingency staffers since its establishment and they are still doing so. Though the department alone provides a turnover of Rs 25 crore per annum to the State exchequer, yet most of its employees are still serving on contingency or functiol basis even as most of them were appointed through proper selection process,” Som said.

The federation also appealed to the government to create the required posts and regularize the deserving employees.
