Transport office vandalized

SHILLONG, Dec 13: Truck drivers, handymen and onlookers vandalised a weigh bridge of the State Transport department on tiol Highway-40 at 13 Mile, Ri-Bhoi district today. According to police, one LPG cylinder laden truck (AP-31T-7877) driven by Baldev Singh (50) accompanied by his son, Palwandeep Singh (20), failed to enter the Weigh Bridge at 13th Mile. Following this, one BSF personnel, sub-inspector, MS Anthony and one BSF constable (me not yet known) assaulted them.  On seeing this, a crowd numbering around 500 and consisting of truckers and public gathered at the place, entered the Weigh Bridge area and Transport Department’s office, assaulted the Home Guards personnel on duty and also vandalized the computer monitors and other equipment in the Transport office.  Later, Police personnel from Byrnihat outpost brought the situation under control later.
