Transporters asked to adhere to NGT guidelines

SHILLONG, April 13: The government on Monday has directed coal transporters to strictly comply with the orders of the tiol Green Tribul (NGT) with regards to transportation of extracted coal within and outside the state.

According to the Commissioner of Transport IW Ingty, all coal laden trucks should ensure to pass through only the desigted weighbridges as identified by the NGT and notified by the government.

The government also asked the truckers to strictly restrict carriage of load up to nine metric tons.

“This is in pursuance of the order of the Supreme Court and the NGT, no overloading is allowed,” the Commissioner of Transport said.

The Commissioner of Transport also warned that in the event of overloading and resultant traffic congestion, the owner of the concerned vehicle should be responsible and liable to pelty and action would be taken as per law.

Further, he stressed that the above orders should be strictly adhered by all concerned in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic and compliance to the orders of NGT.

It may be mentioned that last month the NGT allowed transportation of coal till May 31. The NGT has allowed for the payment of royalty upto April 18.

Further the NGT had also asked the state government to submit a Mining Plan within four weeks, thereafter further course of action on coal mining in Meghalaya will be decided accordingly.
