Trapped in safety tank two workers died in Agartala, tension over delay in rescue

Agartala, September 27: Police and Fire Service workers were attacked as tension running high over the death of two young labourers while cleaning a safety tank at Indragar area in the northern outskirt of Agartala today. The victims were identified as Subham ma Sarkar (20) and Mangal Rabi Das (17).

It is learnt that Subham was cleaning the tank when he fell ill due to poisonous gas inside the tank.

Mangal also met the same fate when he went to help his co-worker. When the two youths were scramming for help local people informed the fire service to rescue them.  Local people alleged that the fire service reached the spot late but was of no use as they did not had required equipments to rescue the workers in such condition.  Police also reached in the area but due to late in rescue operation two boys died in front of large number of people gathered there. It was too late when the bodies were taken out of the tank.

The very scene of the dead bodies of two young man caused tension and the irritated mob attacked the police and fire service workers. However, senior officials including the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Local MLA Sudip Roy Barman also rushed to the spot and supervised the rescue operation. He said lack of  preparedness on the part of the administration to deal with such situation were fully responsible for the loss of two young life.  He demanded Rs 5 lakh and a job to each of the victim’s family as compensation.
