Tree plantation drive in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT, June 8:  A tree plantation drive was initiated by the joint forum of the three Assam based tea producers’ associations - Assam Tea Planters’ Association (ATPA), North Eastern Tea Association (NETA) and Bharatiya Chah Parishad (BCP) — at Pulibor area here on Tuesday. In a press release the joint forum of the associations stated that a meeting was held which was attended by Labour Minister Pallab Lochan Das.

The Minister in his speech requested the tea industry to plant trees.

The three tea producers’ associations have decided to launch tree plantation drive in different districts of Assam in a phased manner. The first plantation drive started on Tuesday at Golaghat by planting 111 nos. of saplings.

“Tea industry is already contributing to the ecological balance by having more than four lakh hectares of land under tea plantation. But there has been large deforestation in Assam over the years due to which there has been climate change and the tea industry is also facing the impact of such climate change,” said the statement.

The three tea producers’ associations have decided to fully support the Chief Minister’s initiative of tree plantation and med the scheme as “Plant Trees Conserve ture”, added the statement.
