Tree plantation drive to be held today

SHILLONG, Aug 14: Commemorating the 69th Independence Day celebration, the Government of Meghalaya through the Mission Green will embark on the last phase of the statewide tree plantation drive on 15thAugust 2016 covering all districts of the state. In the previous phases, a total number of 10, 88,890 saplings had been planted across the state, of which 6, 26,310 were in the Khasi & Jaintia Hills and 4, 62,580 in Garo Hills. On this Independence Day, about 10 lakh more saplings have been targeted to be planted in community lands, road sides, office premises, etc which will be taken up by the district administration, Forest & Environment Department, other line departments, schools, colleges, basin development units, villages, JFMC, watershed committees, Community Based Organisations (CBO’s), Industrial Houses, NGO’s, Village Dorbars, Nokma’s and others across the state.
