Trekking expedition to explore old migration route flags off

Itagar, Nov 25: A trekking expedition to explore old migration route of people from East Kameng and Papum Pare district was flagged off here on Thursday. The expedition ‘Lali Modi Exploration’, with an aim to uncover the erstwhile migration route connecting Cheda Village in East Kameng district and Mengio in Papum Pare district was flagged off by Sports & Youth Affairs secretary Dani Salu from the Civil Secretariat here.

The expedition which also intends to explore the route which was used by the people of the Nyishi Community in the past to practice trade would start off from Pipu in East Kameng district on Saturday.  From Pipu, the mountaineers that include the likes of Everesters Tapi Mra and Nima Lama along with team leader RWS JE Sangkoli Cheda, DC in-charge Olik Taring would take a car ride via Dabiowa Cheda to Lasuk (base camp) and that is from where the actual trekking expedition would start.

“Apart from finding the old migration route used by our ancestors, the aim of this expedition is to look for the availability of medicil plants and also extinct animals in the entire stretch of the area. Lali Ane is known to be the repository of medicil plants and we look forward to explore it,” reveals S Cheda adding, SFRI scientist Kra Taj is also going along with the team for the purpose. Once the route is established, adventure tourism in the State would get a major boost, he added.  

The team during the expedition would trek through the areas like Jotte, Wotte Cheda in East Kameng and Tapo Golo, Kulung and Mengio in Papum Pare. It was also informed that the expedition would set up 5-6 camps and the team would walk for five hours a day.

The other participants of the expedition includes, Seppa senior medical officer Dr Gopi Gyadi, district tourism officer Taluk Som, Hydro Power Development Corporation Aruchal Pradesh Limited (HPDCAPL) deputy general mager Mara Kocho, circle officer Miti Gongo and others.
