Tribal Affairs Minister asks State Government to utilize Central funds

SHILLONG, Oct 13: Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram on Tuesday asked some of the state Government departments to utilize the fund sanctioned by the Centre. The direction was given during a review meeting held here.

Chief Secretary K.S Kropha and other top officials, the Union Minister stated, “Some departments still have not utilized the funds that have been sanctioned by the Centre.”

The Union Minister who left Shillong on Tuesday afternoon also stated that his statement on the voting rights of the non-tribal in the District Councils has been quoted out of context.

A section of media reported (not The Sentinel) quting the minister that the non-tribal should not be allowed to vote in the district councils and the state government should take a decision on this matter.

The Union Minister clarified that he has been misquoted and said  that he has not made any comments on the voting rights of either a tribal or non tribal in the Autonomous District Councils. The Minister said, “Any seat in the Legislative Assembly, Parliament or District Council, if it is reserved for a tribal, the seat should not be given to a non tribal. I have not stated that non-tribal should not be given the right to vote in Autonomous District Councils. I have been misquoted.”
