Tribute paid to young businessman at mass condolence meeting

DIBRUGARH, June 17: People from all walks of life, irrespective of their religion, caste and creed, paid their tribute to Joyahirul Islam (Jitul) at a mass condolence meeting held on Wednesday at Barbaruah Bazar, opposite Barbaruah Police Station.

Jitul, a 27-year old young businessman of the locality was killed at a major road mishap that took place on tiol Highway 37 near Ghooronia Tea Estate on May 21. The last rites (Zaja) of Jitul were performed at the local burial ground which was attended by more than 6,000 people.

The condolence meeting, chaired by the president of Barbaruah Sakha Xahitya Xabha, Ajit Gogoi  was attended by MLA of Lahowal LAC and former Revenue  and Labour Minister, Prithibi Majhi, former MLA of Tingkhong LAC, Anup Phukan , former Mager of Allahabad Bank, Abdul Khaleque, noted social activist of Dibrugarh, Mujibur Rahman, noted businessman Kushal Konwar , Headmstress of Barbaruah Girls’ High School, local businessmen Sanjay Goenka, noted lyricist and artist pensioner Hasan Sarif Ahmed, member of Barbaruah Zila Parishad, Brigu Saikia, Assistant Teacher of Rameswar Higher Secondary School, Kripal Phukan and villagers of surrounding 12 villages.

The speakers while addressing the meeting recalled their close association with Joyahirul Islam and his contribution to the society. They also appealed the youths of Barbaruah and its adjoining region to carry forward the works of social transformation which was visualized by Jitul, which they felt would be best tribute to the departed soul.

Earlier, senior jourlist of Barbarua, Sarat Neog and former Revenue Minister Prithivi Maji lit the traditiol lamp and paid their deep condolence to the departed soul and conveyed their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. The condolence meeting was hosted by local businessman Nomal Gogoi.
